Kiffin Fired

Posted in Sports with tags on September 30, 2008 by Rkik

So it’s finally official.

I knew it was coming eventually unless they started winning, but it’s still disappointing.  I thought he was doing pretty well, and it really sucks that there will be yet another head coach.  No one wants to take a chance there and it just makes things worse.

Ugh.

Weekend Wanderings

First off, I’d just like to say that I really wish that the Raiders could finish off a game as well as they started them.  The Raiders would be 3-1 right now if it weren’t for the 4th quarter.  Grrr.

In other news, I managed to get Tinius to level 20 last night.  He now has a horse and a last name.  So if you see Tinius Olsen the Witch Hunter riding through Avelon on Phoenix Throne, that would be me :D   He’s really starting to look pretty damn awesome.  Right now he’s decked out in white and blue.  Eventually once I start being able to reliably make dyes, I’m going to try for either a dark blue or possible deep red.  As it is, though, the red available from the vendors looks more pink than anything, and that just isn’t right.  I took a screen shot of him last night, so I’ll have to post that later today when I get the chance.

I’ve also decided that I am going to concentrate fully on him until he hits the cap.  I had started an Ironbreaker that was a lot of fun, but with Tinius I’m already lagging a ways behind the rest of the guild, and I’d rather not be stuck without people to play with any more than I have to be.

Warhammer – Benny Hill Style

I ran into this situation today doing a public quest in dwarf country.  The Shadow Warrior out front was being chased by the orc boss, and then there were three dwarf Ironbreakers chasing the orc.  The elf was doing too much damage, so the dwarfs couldn’t pull the orc off of him.  They all ran around like this for about two minutes before the dwarfs finally got his attention.  All the scene needed was yakkity sax.

Here is a close up shot of Tinius, my witch hunter on Phoenix Throne.

Stupid Raiders

Man, that game was just draining.  The excitement of the Raiders leading through most of the game, and the way the defense was playing.  It just built up so much anticipation, and then to have it all taken away in the last minute was depressing.  I guess I can understand why they didn’t call a timeout at the end, but at the same time, I wish they would have just done something.  It just felt too much like giving up.

Keep Siege!

Posted in WAR with tags on September 21, 2008 by Rkik

So my guild in Warhammer Online managed to take a keep tonight in RvR.  It was insane.  It took a few tries and was a general mess all around, but eventually we figured out a kind of strategy.

Here are a few pictures of the mob taking down the keep lord.

All in all it was a great time, and hopefully next time will be a bit more organized.

Raiders Win!

Hooray for the Oakland Raider win yesterday!

McFadden was great, though it sucks that Fargas was injured.  Now hopefully they can continue winning.

Warhammer Online Goes Live!

Posted in WAR with tags on September 15, 2008 by Rkik

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning went live at least for people who preordered the Collector’s Edition.  I was one of those lucky people, so I was there.  Servers went live at about 11:00 am central time, and I managed to get started at about 11:30.  I got everything patched up, made my characters on my guild’s chosen server (Phoenix Throne), and then proceeded to sit in a queue for about an hour.  Luckily this gave me some time to make lunch and put my son down for a nap.

Things went pretty smoothly overall.  There were some problems, though, like the game kicking me to the character selection screen only moments after I finally got through the login queue for the first time, which meant I had to sit in that queue a second time before I could play.  They raised the population cap about halfway through my time in the queue and I got in early then I expected.  After that it was all smooth sailing.

I join up with my friends, ran some public quests, played a few scenarios, and helped to form the guild.  A little later after a scenario ended, they were kicked to desktop, while I managed to stay in the game.  We decided to stay away from scenarios for a bit in case the same thing happened again.  So we ran more PQs, and I managed to roll pretty terribly for the end loot in most cases.  Placing in the top 5 for contribution and then rolling sub-100 rolls doesn’t lead to many wins :P

All in all it was a great time.  The servers were stable and there was almost zero lag.  Things ran great.  I’m loving the fact that I can actually play a character that won’t disappear in the next few days.

Hats off to Mythic for a great launch.  Keep it up!

Too many hobbies

Posted in Uncategorized on September 9, 2008 by Rkik

I have a bad tendency to jump into things and then never finish them.  Because of this, I have far too many hobbies.

1.  Video Games – At the moment, it is Warhammer Online.  I was playing EVE for about a month, but the time commitment is a bit much and it was simply a diversion for me until WAR came out anyways.  Besides those two, I’ve got tons of other games that I started but never finished, including Bioshock, GTA4, Blue Dragon, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and that’s just for the Xbox 360.  Hopefully WAR will keep me interested, since I really don’t need another AoC (which I played for about 2 months).

2.  Card Games – I am playing Magic the Gathering, though the time commitment for that has been dwindling.  I’ve started playing the Warcraft CCG occasionally, but that’s no where near serious.  The next set of MtG doesn’t really have any of our group all that excited, so we may be moving onto other games before long.

3.  Fencing – I’ve decided to take up Renaissance Fencing for some more excersise, but right now, finding time to practice is proving difficult.  It’s something I’m definitely interested in, and I really need to motivate myself to keep up with it.

4.  Disc Golf – During the summer I try and play disc golf every day.  It’s been fun and great excersise.  With Fall and Winter coming up soon, this time will be spent doing other things, but for now it’s yet another thing to do.

5.  Warhammer 40k – A friend of mine and I play this on occasion during the winter months, and it’s great.  Problem is, I dislike playing with boring unpainted figures, so I need time to paint them.  I’ve got most of an Eldar army painted, but there is a lot of little things that still need to be finished.  And then there is the Necron army and Chaos Space Marine army that I’ve barely touched.  And the Orc army that I may be starting this year.  Add in the Warmachine game that looks really cool, and you’ve got a lot of unfinished projects.

6.  Paintball – I’ve been able to play a good amount this year, but along with that, I’ve been working on modifying a couple of my markers.  Of course, none of them are complete.  My 98c still needs some finishing work, and needs to be painted.  My Spyder needs a lot of milling and probably an anno job before it is done.  Then there is the autococker that I’d like to get fixed up before next year.

Somewhere in all of that I need to go to work and spend some time with my family.  What’s a guy to do, though, when you’re in a small town without much going on.

Just a few of my favorite pictures from an old blog that I wanted to save before I blew the site away.

New Blog!

Great, just what I really needed.  Another place on the internet that will probably get forgotten.  Oh well.  Hopefully this will get a little more action.

For now, this will probably just contain random pictures, musings, talk about Warhammer Online, paintball, disc golf, etc.

Hope you enjoy.
