Weekend Gaming: Halloween

This weekend was our annual Halloween party, so Nick and Laura were in town visiting.  After taking all the kids out for the festivities on Friday, Joe joined us for a game.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGina had been wanting to play CO2, so we taught it to Laura.  I had the Corporate Goal that rewarded a bonus for UN Goals, so I was trying to get a bunch of different power plants built.  I was able to get all but nuclear built and picked up four of the UN goals.  I had lead the scoring nearly the entire game, but on the last turn Joe was able to wrest control of South America from me and I had no access to CEPs.  Laura had control of North America and Oceana plus a large stock of her own CEPs.  This was a huge boost to her score, and she ended up winning her first game by a wide margin.

On Saturday, everyone came over for the party.  After getting pictures of the steampunk themed costumes, some jumped into Zombie Dice while others were getting situated.  After that, everyone played The Resistance.  Laura, Nick, Dana and I were the Spies and I started off as the leader.  Dana was the next leader, and with the two of us we were able to quickly fail the first two missions while casting serious doubt on Louis.  When the next mission was assigned and there were three spies being sent, the resistance didn’t stand a chance.  With two failures it was over quickly.

Ryan and Laurel showed up part way through the game, so Phil, Joe, and I joined them for Hanabi while the rest of the group played more Resistance.  Hanabi went well, and we scored solidly.  We followed that with a game they called PEGS, which consists of a board with 100 spaces on it where you and your teammate are trying to get 5-in-a-row.  Jaime joined us and Joe and I were on a team.  Joe and I won the first game quickly, but couldn’t get things going in the second.  Both Ryan and Jaime, and Phil and Laurel had lines that required a 3 to complete, but no one had the card.  It went around a few times before Jaime managed to draw the card and finish the game.

In the meantime the others played Chicago Express, and when that was finished a few of the group had to leave.  We finished the night with Shadows over Camelot.  It was a busy game with the knights quickly completing a war against the Saxons.  The Grail quest was also quickly finished, which was quite surprising.  Phil and Gina were both acting suspiciously, but I didn’t really consider Gina’s actions to be traitor worthy.  Louis did call out Phil, though, and he was revealed to be a traitor.  Gina revealed herself later because of a random action.  It was too late for the traitors, though, and we were able to finish out the rest of the game cleanly and the victory went to the knights.

It was a great weekend overall, and another fun filled Halloween weekend.

Until next time, happy gaming!

Weekend Gaming: Sleepovers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy son had a friend over Saturday night, so we didn’t get the normal group together for games.  Gina and I did get to play a couple games Saturday afternoon, though.  We started with a couple runs though our newest game, Hanabi.  We were just learning things, and we didn’t score better than 11 in either game.  It was interesting to figure out how to communicate within the limited rules to get the cards played in the right order.

We then played Terra Mystica.  Gina was the Witches, and I played the Darklings.  I was able to get a city relatively quickly, focusing on temples.  Things were pretty even throughout the game, but Gina wasn’t doing much on the cult track, so I was able to easily take a lead in three out of the four cults.  I also had the largest empire by just a couple, thanks to my boats.  I ended up with a score around 120 and Gina had about 90.

Until next time, happy gaming!
