More Painted Trolls

I have been doing a little painting, but I have been mostly delinquent about posting pictures.  So here are some pictures of the trolls I’ve been working on.

First the Troll Impaler (need to finish the base on this guy and the Axer:

Their bases still need some grass as an accent, but otherwise I’m happy with the way they turned out.

Weekend Gaming: Village

The only gaming had this weekend was a game of Village with Joe Sunday night.  Joe was heavily invested in the travelling, while Gina and I were sending people to Church.  I had also pushed a guy to the top of the council chamber and managed to convert at least a few coins to points.

Joe ended the game before I was prepared, and so I was stuck with a bunch of unused resources.  Gina had managed to snag a couple of six point market tiles, while provided the points she needed to take first.

Along with that, I also actually did some painting this weekend.  A bunch of my paints have dried up, but most are still good.  I had picked up a Trollbloods starter thanks to the Warmachine Kickstarter, so I was excited to paint them just for fun.  Here is the work in progress Impaler that I starter on.

Finished Menoth Starter Box

I finished painting the contents of the Menoth starter box about a week ago.  I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out in the end.  It’s a pretty simple color scheme, with Chaos Black armor panels, Liche Purple trim and Chainmail for the silver.  Everything is then given a wash of Babab Black.  The black was then highlighted with about a 70/30 mix of black and white and the purple with a 50/50 mix of purple and white.  The silver was highlighted with Mithril Silver and the eyes were done with Iyanden Darksun.

I still need to figure out what kind of bases to use, but I’m leaning towards some kind of resin bases.

Warmachine: Khador

Lately, I had some fun painting up my Khador starter set that I had bought ages ago.  They were painted with Reaper Dark Shadow brown, Mechrite Red, Shining Gold and Chainmail Silver.  They were then given an all over wash of Devlan Mud.  Mechrite Red, Burnished Gold and Mithril Silver were used to highlight the Red, Gold and Silver respectively.  The brown was highlighted with a 50/50 mix of Dark Shadow and Snakebite Leather.  All-in-all it was a pretty simple scheme, but I think it turned out quite well.

Here they are in all their glory.

Warmachine: Kommander Sorscha

The starter box of Khador models I’ve had for about 5 years now is the next to get painted.  I’ve always liked the Sorscha model, but I didn’t really want to do quite as much red for the army, so I decided to try my had at brown.  I really think that the warm browns, reds and gold make a nice combination.

More Menoth

First up is the Crusader.  It’s still a work in progress, and you’ll have to excuse the lighting.  I am trying out a new lightbox, and the colors are far too warm.

Next is a Revenger

Warcaster Kreoss

And finally a group shot

WIP: High Exemplar Kreoss and a Warjack

As a change of pace, I decided to put some paint down on my Menoth forces from Warmachine.  I hadn’t touched them in ages, since I couldn’t really decide on a color scheme that I really liked.  I like the standard Red/White color scheme seen in pictures, but it wasn’t working the way I wanted on the models.

Yesterday some inspiration hit, and I decided to try out a purple/black/silver scheme.  I tried it on High Exemplar Kreoss first, as he is a smaller model.  In my opinion it turned out quite well.  It is a bit dark, but I think it will look really neat as a unified theme.

There’s still some clean-up and detailing to do, but in general I think things worked out quite well.  So the next step was to try it out on a Warjack.  This one is very much a work in progress, but it’s looking good.  He was originally started in the red/white scheme and I just decided to paint over it, which is why you can see some red peaking through the cracks.

Painting Stuff

Ahh, spring.  Things have been a bit crazy lately, so I haven’t been painting quite as much.  Instead, I have been taking advantage of the decent weather we’re finally getting, playing some World of Warcraft in the evenings, and reading.  I have been working on a few things, though, and just haven’t posted them.  So here we go…

First up is a Witchling Stalker from Malifaux.  I had finished him a while ago, but I only recently finished up the bases for them and he is the first to get the full base treatment.  The fence in the background is from a Warhammer Chaos Rhino.

Next up is my second Wolf Lord on his Thunderwolf.  I still need to finish his base, but I am waiting until I have a few more Space Wolves painted so I can get them all based at once.

Last up is the Warmachine Menoth Warjack that I am working on.  Right now I am just blocking out the base colors and trying things out.  It’s a neat project, just because of the large areas to paint.  Not a ton of tiny details, so I have a chance to try some different things.  That said, I’m not 100% sold on the color combination, so we’ll see if it sticks around, or if things change drastically.

That’s pretty much what I’ve been working on lately.   I have also been working on assembling some Mithicast Thunderwolves, and I plan on writing a review of them once I finish them all, but my initial impressions are mixed.  The wolves themselves are quite detailed, but that detail seems to have played havoc with the molds and there are tons of flaws on the wolves that are a royal pain to fix.  Anyways, more detail will be covered later.

Thanks for visiting, and happy gaming.
